Guide 04
A smooth path is not automatically a good shot.
RE+ gives Rockstar Editor a real curve through its markers. The useful part is choosing when that curve should feel organic, measured or completely still.
Start with marker intent
With OnlySmoothBlend=1, RE+ only takes over markers set to Smooth. Linear markers remain stock. That gives you a simple language inside one project.
Travel through space
Use for a dolly, crane, orbit, tracking move or a controlled change of lens.
Keep a direct transition
Use when a curve would drift away from the subject or create an unwanted arc.
Let the frame hold
A locked camera often carries more weight than another elaborate movement.
Choose one pacing model
| Model | Configuration | Feels like |
|---|---|---|
| Natural | NaturalPacing=1 | Organic acceleration shaped by marker times and bends |
| Continuous | NaturalPacing=0SmoothSpeedProfile=1 | Even travel fitted across the whole marker run |
| Per segment | NaturalPacing=0SmoothSpeedProfile=0ArcLengthRemap=1 | Each segment controls its own measured pace |
Curve tension only applies after Natural pacing is disabled. This is one of the easiest settings to change without seeing any result.
Curve tension without the textbook fog
0.0Uniform
Longer tangents and wide turns. Try it when a path doubles back and the other shapes hook around a marker.
0.5Centripetal
Shorter tangents around closely spaced points. A safe general starting point for ordinary paths.
1.0Chordal
Weights knot spacing most strongly by distance. It is the supplied default.
Use FOV like a lens
RE+ unlocks the engine range from 1 to 130 degrees of vertical field of view. That freedom is useful, but the limits are not normal lenses. The editor shows zoom as 45 ÷ FOV.
Move closer before reaching for an extreme FOV. Very wide values distort cars, faces and architecture.
A moderate lens is usually easiest for dialogue, interiors and grounded tracking.
Longer lenses make traffic, pursuit cars and layered backgrounds sit closer together.
Keep the same FOV on every marker when the lens should remain locked. Animate FOV only for a deliberate zoom, push-pull or dolly zoom.
Three usable shot recipes
- ASide tracking a car
Use Continuous pacing, an attached or look-at camera, a locked lens and only enough markers to describe the route.
- BSlow reveal around an object
Use Natural pacing, evenly timed Smooth markers and no FOV animation. Let the bend create the ease.
- CDolly zoom
Move the camera toward or away from the subject while changing FOV in the opposite perceptual direction. Keep the look-at re-aim enabled.
